Here’s How You Can Make Chris Traeger’s Burger From Parks and Rec

If you watched Parks and Recreation, you remember the Season 3 episode where Chris Traeger and Ron Swanson faced off to see whose burger was really best. While Ron served up a plain old slab of meat on a regular bun, Chris, of course, created the now-infamous “East-Meets-West Patented Traeger Turkey Burger.” Well, Binging with Babish, a YouTube channel dedicated to recreating all the best food creations from film and TV, made the epic burger — and it looks just as amazing as it sounds! Keep scrolling for a step-by-step guide to making the burger:

Step 1

Take a small eggplant and cut the top off of it before cutting it in half length-wise. Drizzle olive oil on top, then sprinkle with kosher salt and ground pepper. Then score it (a knife technique) and bake it for 30-40 minutes until it’s soft.

Step 2

Next is the papaya chutney. Take a papaya, peel it, and slice it down the center, take the seeds out and then cut it into one-inch pieces. Mix it in a saucepan with apple cider vinegar, golden raisins, some salt and pepper, and saffron.

Step 3

Making the aioli. Take four egg yolks, some lemon juice, some black truffle oil mixed with canola oil and stir it together.

Step 4

Making the Taleggio cheese crisp. Well, apparently Taleggio cheese doesn’t crisp well, so in its place, use Fontina cheese mixed with Parmesan cheese. Grate it onto a non-stick surface and bake it for eight minutes or until it’s golden brown.

Step 5

Making the turkey burger. Take a turkey breast and put it in a food processor with the roasted eggplant. When it’s at the correct consistency, add soy sauce, marmite, and anchovy paste.

Step 6

Shape the meat into third-pound patties and add an indent in the middle of the burger. Season the burgers with kosher salt and ground pepper. Then, sear the burgers in safflower oil.

Step 7

Dress the buns. Take a gluten-free brioche bun and dress it with the papaya chutney and aioli. Add some microgreens to the top bun, then put the patty in place. Of course, add the cheese crisp. Watch the whole video below:
